L'Atlas, Jules Dedet Granel, was born in France in 1978. He lives and works in Paris. He started graffiti in the 1990s. The starting point of his artistic work is the history of writing. Following history of art and archeology studies, his passion led him to travel and study calligraphy in several countries. The artist will then recognise the surprising chemistry between this ancient inherited tradition of calligraphy and codes of Western graffiti. His original and personal typography is a game of endless variations, coursing optical art in sometimes abstract and always geometric variations. Atlas’s methodical approach is evolving by multiplying the forms of his writing through the semantic prism of his name in reference to the map of the world: it is a mix of typography and topography. Creating his cryptogram "l'Atlas" is like a raw material that allows him to create in nite way through this structural persistence. A major figure and internationally recognised within post graffiti art, he is an artist whose image arouses a certain fascination with collectors and the public.
